Post race family hangs <3

Family of Four!

Hi, my name is Heidi. I’m a Southern California native, mom of two, and avid runner. I grew up running because it always made me feel free. It was also a sport that at the time didn’t cost more than a pair of running shoes ;p As I grew older, running became a go to cardio option during my weekly workouts and nothing more. It wasn’t until I became a Mother in 2013 that I begun to turn my love for the sport into something more for myself. My only stroller was a jogger and my feet started to pave endless adventures for my son and I.

In the summer of 2015, I decided to build strength, focus my mind, and challenge myself. I registered for my first 5k and ran the race with my son. The event gave me an adrenaline rush I couldn’t explain. It was then when I decided to take my running to a competitive level, a level that I could work with myself and challenge my abilities. Soon, I was running multi-mile trail runs, 10k’s and eventually a half-marathon. In February of 2016, I found out I was pregnant with my second son. Running allowed me to stay in shape and maintain a healthy pregnancy. 12 weeks post-baby and with only 6 weeks to train, I ran my second half-marathon and managed to PR by 7 minutes! This showed me to never underestimate what my body and mind is capable of. When I challenge myself, I can do great things. The beginning of 2017 proved this again when I crossed the finish line of my first marathon. Becoming a marathoner is the true test of knowing one’s self and a feeling I’ll never forget.

As I begin to wrap up 2017, I started my running journey with the goal of finishing my first marathon. As of November, I’ve finished 3!! I moved my goal a little farther and completed my first Ultra Marathon in October. In 2018, I started strong completing my first 50 miler in January and 100k in October! I had many great races in between that allowed me to train and stay strong!

Running is more than a hobby, or just a sport to me. It’s me finding that girl each run that feels free and it’s a Mom that gets to share new adventures with her boys while teaching them that anything is possible if you work for it.

My true-life adventure begun in 2011 when I moved from Southern California to Northern Virginia. Love makes you do silly things and moving cross-country was definitely one of them. The move trended a lifestyle change and allowed me to be with  Mav. Mav and I found out we were pregnant in March of 2013 and I gave birth to our first child in November.

In January of 2015, our family was offered the opportunity to relocate to Southern California. Coming back home was a huge decision and one that we decided would be best as a family. In February of 2016 we confirmed we were expecting Baby #2 who arrived in August. Being a Mom of Two has been exciting yet challenging. I’m learning to find the right balance and believe it will develop with time. I look at my journey and love that it’s lead me to being a Mommy. In 2017 my goal is to provide for the boys on my own and raise them while modeling positive relationships. 2018 proved to make me a strong parent and better Mother. As my youngest continued to excel in his teachings, I learned my oldest had ASD. Life is tough but it’s what makes it worthwhile. Heading into 2019, I’m looking into some big events! I haven’t registered for many races but do have a few ultras and big backpacking trips on my plate!

Being a mommy is amazing and everything I’ve dreamt of. I wanted to be able to share my experiences along with products that have helped me too. So, I went ahead and created this blog. The mom life is something I was definitely created for and I’m glad I can share it with friends =)
